"Cloud Song" is featured in the wonderful 1984 Taiwanese film "Lake Sprite", along with 3 other songs from Chyi Yu's 1983 album "You are all my memories". The film puts the song into context. "Ghost" girl Jo-Ping, played by Joey Wang, floats in and out of photographer Emin's life like a cloud, as she herself tells him. "I'm like floating clouds meeting you by chance." She also says "Don't ask me where I come from" , and "I am not to be tied down."

Chyi's "You are all my memories" album, is less accessible than her other albums, but much-loved by those who follow her music closely, and also much written-about. It is a sublime album from track one to track 10. The man you see in the video is Lee Tai-hsiang who sadly has suffered from Parkinsons Disease since 1988. His arrangements and orchestrations are as sublime as Chyi's voice and interpretations. They surely inspired each other! I feel pretty inspired myself, and still consider this the greatest album I have ever heard by a female artist ... up there with Love's "Forever Changes" or Pink Floyd's "Piper At The Gates of Dawn". I felt Li Tai Xiang was as much part of each song as Chyi herself. Again I decided the video was better without words on the screen, but you can find them below this section.

Chyi was born on October 17, 1957 in Taichung, Taiwan, the elder sister of Taiwanese singer-songwriter Chyi Chin齊秦. She studied at National Taiwan University Department of Anthropology, and was one of the leading lights in the Taiwan Campus Folk Movement. Countryside Paths was her award-winning first recording in 1978, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI17lWi5q7E One of her many ventures outside music was in 1997, when she was invited to serve as the "World Vision" 1997 Hunger Ambassador, on behalf of Taiwan Asia, going to Africa to visit refugees.

In 2002, Chyi converted to Buddhism, following a trip to Tibet. She then released four albums featuring Buddhist chants. "If pop music can sooth people's moods, then spiritual music can comfort our souls." Known for her signature Bohemian style of dressing, Chyi has also been described as "China's Enya" Nowadays, she lives in Beijing with her rock-star turned pop-singer younger brother Chyi Chin. They sing a wonderful live version of "You are all my Memories" on You Tube.
