Description
The Hawkbirds covering the Ramones track, “I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement”... more than 2 years after first posting this song on 8/3/22, when Sunflower could barely hold the bass! 🎸🌻 See the older video here... https://youtu.be/ITFRE7d2T4I
The song, written by Johnny and Dee Dee, was released in 1976 on their debut album Ramones. “I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement” is simply based on the fear of going down to a dark cellar. Blondie once joked that the song could have been based on the bathroom at the famous punk venue, CBGBs, in New York City.. which famously had a pretty scary bathroom in the basement. Like many Ramones songs, “I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement” blends humor and angst, exemplifying the punk attitude into short, punchy bite-sized pieces that get deep into your brain and stay there forever.
Lyrics…
🎶 Hey, daddy-o
I don't want to go down to the basement
There's somethin' down there
I don't want to go
Hey, Romeo
There's somethin' down there
I don't want to go down to the basement
Hey, daddy-o
I don't want to go down to the basement
There's somethin' down there
I don't want to go
Hey, Romeo
There's somethin' down there
I don't want to go down to the basement 🎶
Brown Bear isn't afraid of the basement. Although the ceilings are low, the floors creak, and dark corners hold spooky secrets, his fear is overcome by the commanding sound of the Ramones blasting from the amps. He knows that when punk rock fills the space with so much raw power, even the shadows seem to dance along. As long as the music is playing, Brown Bear feels invincible, like the basement's just another place to headbang… or just sit quietly on the shelf. 🧸
This cover was recorded on 11/11/24 in our basement studio, on 6 separate tracks (vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar, bass drum, toms/snare, and cymbals) using a Zoom H6 audio interface, and mixed with GarageBand. Sennheiser HD-660S2 headphones, and an AudioEngine DAC3 amplifier, help to balance the sound in order to highlight each instrument during the mixing process. All of the different speakers out there, from phone and TVs to HiFi systems and monitors all sound unique, but with your help, we can smooth it all out. Thank you so much for all of your feedback which continues to help us reproduce better sound. Keep your comments coming!
